Morecambe Bay Walk: 27th May 2007

County College bravely took to the sands of Morecambe Bay in order to raise money for the India schools fund (http://lancs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2364496294). The walk began by chasing the guide to catch up to him so we didn’t die! His name was Cedric Robinson and is officially appointed by the Queen to guide people across the very dangerous sands. We found ourselves walking through a caravan park, and across various bits of grass in order to catch him, at moments thinking that possibly he was just a random guy going for a walk... However, we were in luck and finally arrived at the start of the Morecambe Bay crossing.

Vaguely resembling Bilbo Baggins, the man with the plan (and a hefty walking stick) gave some random talk about the walk that no one could actually hear and then we began across the sands! The treacherous route is navigated by trees, which the guide himself plants every so often until they get sucked in by the sands. The walk was going pretty well with County in high spirits (if not a little blown about by the wind!) until we came to a big puddle...a REALLY big puddle!!!

Wading through I was glad i’d taken Lance’s advice to remove my wellies or they’d have had more than feet in them!? Anywho, once across the waters we continued the 9 mile walk (the distance is disputable) to safety where the guide attempted to flog us his book ‘Between The Tides’!  A job well done!

Thank you to everyone who came on the walk and I hope you all had a fantastic time! It was actually warmer than it is in Lancaster at the moment!!!! Also, I’m sorry most of the pictures are the same but there wasn’t a whole lot to take photos of, except sand...
